Why do hippos have tails
Hippopotamuses have four toes on their feet, with hooves covering each toe. The hippopotamus can close its nostrils underwater to stop any water from getting in. It is almost hairless in most parts, and very thick and fatty. Despite having a huge body and very short legs, the hippopotamus walks and swims underwater easily, and can run surprisingly fast on land.
